Understanding the Menopause Journey

Hormonal changes during your 40s and 50s can affect your mood, sleep, and overall wellbeing. While menopause is a natural life stage, the symptoms can be challenging — and support can make a significant difference.

There are three distinct stages to menopause:

  • Perimenopause

  • Menopause

  • Post-Menopause

Perimenopause can start in your late 30s, although most women will start to experience symptoms in their 40s. The average age for women to reach menopause is in their early 50s and then post-menopause follows once the 12 months of menopause are complete. Take a look at our Blog - Is this Perimenopause? Understanding perimenopause and the stages beyond, for a more detailed explanation.

Managing menopause is not one-size-fits-all. A personalised approach may include support from:

  • Your GP

  • Clinical nutritionists

  • Naturopaths or herbalists

  • Physical therapists

  • Acupuncturists

The goal is to support your health, both in the short and long-term, through nutrition and lifestyle strategies, movement, supplements, and, where appropriate, hormone therapy (you must consult with your GP or specialist for hormone therapy).

How can Nourish Me Nutrition support you?

Nourish Me Nutrition offers in-depth education and understanding of perimenopause, menopause and post-menopause as it relates to you, and a thorough assessment of your health status.  In your initial consultation we talk about your current health, including nutrition and lifestyle (exercise, stress factors, emotional support), investigate your hormone status and look at bodily functions such as, hormones, thyroid, gut, inflammation and metabolic disturbances:

Once this information has been assessed, we provide you with a tailored treatment plan to address your current symptoms, and ongoing interventions to ensure your health throughout these life stages is optimised for the future.   If indicated, supplementation, diet plan and further investigations through functional or traditional testing may also be required.

Some of the tests that may be appropriate are:

  • Full blood test from your GP, to include female hormone levels, iron studies, cholesterol (LDL, HDL and triglycerides), thyroid panel (TSH will be done initially), Hba1c, vitamin D, vitamin B12, zinc and folate.

  • DUTCH test (Dried Urine Test for Comprehensive Hormones): this is used to assess your personal hormones (reproductive and stress) and ensures that treatment options are targeted.

  • Cortisol and DHEA saliva test.

We will see you periodically to monitor your progress, address any new symptoms and provide ongoing support to keep you feeling your best.

You don’t have to navigate menopause alone — support and effective treatment options are available.
